IO Performance’s RioT ACT (Rehearsal & Tuition) is a unique program designed to provide aspiring actors between the ages of 14-18 with an immersive and challenging learning experience. This program operates under the premise that young adults should be treated as adults and are expected to behave accordingly.

The class curriculum focuses on honing the craft of acting through rigorous training and exploration of various techniques. Students engage in a wide range of activities, including improvisation exercises, scene study, character development, and script analysis. The aim is to empower participants to develop a deeper understanding of their artistic abilities and to cultivate a sense of professionalism within the industry.

As young adults, students will be held to high standards of discipline, responsibility, and accountability. They are expected to arrive on time, fully prepared, and ready to invest their time and energy into the class. Instructors will emphasize the importance of commitment, respect, and collaboration, instilling a sense of professionalism that mirrors real-world acting environments.

The class environment promotes a sense of camaraderie and mutual support among students, fostering a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about acting.

Students are encouraged to share their experiences, offer constructive feedback, and engage in open discussions about the challenges and triumphs they encounter in their acting journey.

By treating young adults as adults, this acting class encourages students to take ownership of their learning, fostering a sense of autonomy and independence. The program aims to equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and mindset to navigate the acting industry with confidence and professionalism.

Students will work with Co-Artistic Director Grace Roberts on a weekly basis to build and refine their skills in a safe and fun environment.

The structure of these sessions are designed to challenge the individual and support them to become better performers in a tuition style environment. Each session will be a small group of their peers (max 10) to allow the time and attention to be paid to each student.

Each session is built from professional level exercises and are tried and tested in the performance community. Although each session is different, students will be required to engage in the core performance making elements each week, including: physicality and physical interaction, voice and projection, improvisation skills, energised performance practice, eye contact and stillness. We understand these elements may be uncomfortable for some people, but encourage every student to step outside their comfort zones in order to extend themselves. Rest assured they will be in a supported and safe environment when they do so.

If any of these elements are too uncomfortable for any students, we are willing to make accommodations so that everyone feels welcome and safe at all times.

IO HQ is a Welcome Here accredited venue, which means everyone is welcome, no matter their gender/sexual orientation/identity. We are also aware and accommodating of any neurodivergent needs as a part of our identity.

Please let us know if there is anything you wish us to know before commencing the session/term.

Overall, a RioT ACT can be an excellent way for those with a passion for acting to gain the experience and knowledge they need to pursue their dreams.
