INTER/OUTER PROGRAM
IO Performance’s INTER/OUTER season is an initiative that supports emerging directors in their journey to mount their first full length play. This opportunity is one offered exclusively by IO Performance and has been an integral part of our season since our venue launch in 2019. We believe there are fantastic emerging artists who are capable of achieving outstanding results and that their work will inevitably add to our rich and dynamic arts sector in Tasmania.
They can only grow and develop this craft by being supported by their local community, and we believe we can offer our skills and expertise to mentor these emerging creatives, as well as giving them a safe space to take risks and to feel valued as artists in the community. The program is chosen through an open application process and asks each creative to be bold in their proposals, as well as justify their choices in relation to the upcoming season theme. It is a requirement that they choose published One Act plays.

Inter/Outer 2025 Applications open 1ST AUGUST 2024
Here's how it works:
You email us an EOI to info@ioperformanceco.com. We will send you an Application Form.
This form will ask such questions as:
- Which script would you like to pitch?
- Why have you chosen this script?
- How does it fit with IO's season theme?
- What prior experience do you have in the theatre and art industry (if any)?
- What made you want to apply?

IONS
IO Performance’s IONS season is a new initiative that supports early to mid-career directors on their journey by providing them with an opportunity to mount a contemporary play. IONS (IO NEXT STAGE) is offered as part of our annual season providing another in-road, access point and platform for directors to experiment and gain more experience in a safe and supported environment. Those eligible to apply are directors who have directed less than 3 plays in their career. This program aims to bridge the gap between established and emerging directors by creating an extra stepping and touch stone on the path. The successful IONS director is selected through an open application process, that asks them to be daring with their proposal, take creative risks and justify their chosen play in relation to the upcoming season theme.
